At the 2009 January Sale, Barb Side
purchased a grey Siberian Summer
2-year-old (Hip 67) for $30,000 from
River Edge Farm, agent.


The 78-year-old mother of six and
grandmother of 18 from Grande
Prairie, Alberta has an eye for picking
a good horse. With a four-race win
streak on the line, No Hesitation won
the $300,000 Canadian Derby-G3
at 1 3/8 miles by 1 ½ lengths as the
6-5 favorite and has never been off the
board in 8 career starts for trainer
Jim Meyaard.

Earlier on the card, Barb and Al Side
and trainer Jim Mayaard won the
$71,514 City of Edmonton Distaff
Handicap at 1 1/16 miles with
Alywyn ('08 Jan. Hip 116).


The daughter of Benchmark was
purchased as a 2-year-old for $2,700
from River Edge Farm, agent. She
has won 10 of 18 starts and $148,692.


A Bertrando half-sister to Alywyn is
is catalogued to sell as Hip 124 at the
2010 California Cup Yearling Sale
conducted October 12-13 at Barretts.


March graduate Concord Point
owns back-to-back scores in the
$750,000 West Virginia Derby-G2
and $250,000 Iowa Derby-G3.

Favored at 4-5, Concord Point took
the lead shortly after the start of the
1 1/8 mile West Virginia Derby-G2
and was never seriously challenged
while earning the winner's share of
the purse, $442,500 for his owner
Kaleem Shah.

Consigned to the 2009 March Sale
by Eddie Woods, Concord Point
(Hip 114) and fellow grad Testa
Matta ('08 Mar. Hip 166) are the
top money winners of 2010 for

Wave ('07 May Hip 218) just missed
defending his title in the $213,628
Play the King S. (Can-G2). The son
of Hold That Tiger has earned nearly
$600,000 and was sold by Eddie
Woods for $50,000.

Golden Gate, August 29
Circling the field four-wide on the turn,
March Sale grad Wealthy Aviator
('10 Hip 126) gained the lead late to
win a 6-fur. MSW by just over a length
in his first start. The fifth winner for
Freshman sire Henny Hughes - also
a Barretts March Sale grad - was
consigned by NexStar LLC.

In a bold run from last, Dakota
Phone ('07 May Hip 137) was up in
time for third in the $1,000,000
Pacific Classic-G1. The G2 winner
by Zavata purchased from Cashmark
Farms for $67,000, has earned
$703,810 for John Carver, Halo Farms,
George Todaro & Jerry Hollendorfer.

Del Mar, August 28
California Cup Yearling Sale purchase
Pleasing Sunrise ('09 Hip 95) rallied
four-wide under a hand ride to win
a $52,400 MSW and a $20,000 bonus
for owner SLO Racing Stable. The
Cal-bred daughter of Speightstown
was purchased by Thomas Green
for $10,000 from the consignment of
Walking G Ranch, agent. Her half-brother
by In Excess is cataloged as Hip 119
at the 2010 California Cup Yearling
Sale at Barretts, October 12-13.

Del Mar, August 26
In a battle to the wire, May Sale grad
Connagher ('08 Hip 229) prevailed
by a head to win the $55,200 turf
feature in :55 4/5 for the 5 furlongs.
The son of In Excess purchased for
$50,000 from BC3 Thoroughbreds,
has won 3 of 4 starts for owners Juan
Quinones, Jr. & Mary Ellen West.

Del Mar, August 22
Setting all but the final fraction,
October Yearling Sale graduate
My Maloof Rocker ('06 Hip 155)
was third, defeated 1 ½ lengths
in the $100,000 Solana Beach
Handicap at one mile on turf.
The $316,194 earning daughter
of Unusual Heat was consigned
by Havens Bloodstock Agency.

Del Mar, August 22
Breaking alertly, October Yearling
Sale grad Da Boomer ('09 Hip 220)
dueled between horses for the first
three furlongs then battled down the
stretch to win his 2-year-old debut
and earn a $20,000 maiden bonus
for owners Richard Bell and Clark
Brewster. The flashy colt by
Freshman sire Da Stoops was sold
by Madera Thoroughbreds for
$55,000. His half-brother by Terrell
is catalogued as Hip 291at the
2010 California Cup Yearling Sale
